Superbowl LVI (56) is being shown live on TV at DTD on Sunday 13th Feb @ 11:30pm - and whilst Team LPPL will be competing in the APAT UK Team Championship (Sat/Sun) - and we're planning on making a time of it smile

Whilst Team LPPL will of course be playing Day 2 of the team event on Sunday (3pm), there is also a NLHE side event at 5pm which anyone can enter - buyin is £50+£10.

So - members are invited to join Team LPPL at DTD on Sunday 13th Feb - and of course you can play the 5pm side event if you wish - and of course join us for a social gathering that evening at the DTD bar.

Aside from the poker smile the NFL Superbowl is a great event to watch and there’s always a great atmosphere watching it with a group of people - and whilst I personally know next to nothing about NFL, Matthew Summers has kindly put together an overview of the NFL and the Superbowl - and for those joining us on Sunday, Matthew will be at the bar for the start of the Superbowl to buy you a beer smile with only one stipulation - you must be a member of LPPL and wearing a Team LPPL shirt throughout Sunday cool which we will provide to all members attending - or wearing a Team Angies Room shirt smile

We will also have some opportunities for members to join us over the entire weekend at DTD by using prize packages via the LPPL online shop and these will be available to 'purchase' with your package on Sun 16th Jan via https://lpplleaguepoker.com/browse?k=C_066

An intro to NFL / Superbowl from Matthew smile

The NFL season starts in September and Superbowl (the final) is usually the first weekend in February. There are 32 teams that are split into two Conferences and four divisions. They play for 17 games (weeks) in the regular season and after the regular season the top two teams in each division plus two wild card teams enter the playoffs which plays as a knockout competition until two teams play to be the season champion at the Superbowl.

The half time show at the Superbowl is a highly anticipated event and the adverts are the most expensive on TV. The show normally consists of one of the biggest stars or the song of the year along with an amazing show.

Players come through the college football system and are picked by the professional teams through a system known as “The Draft”. The team that come last get the first pick of the best players. This is to try and keep the league competitive and stop one team winning each year. Teams do have the option to sell their opportunity to pick first and that can raise a lot of money for the team.

If you are new to the NFL below you will find some information that can help you at least understand what is being talked about.

|Simple Rules

• 60 minute game split into four 15 minute quarters
• 10 Minutes of overtime if a draw
• Clock stopped in between action (games last a lot longer than an hour)
• Score more points than the opposition
• 11 players on each side on the field
• Up to 45 players in each team
• Each Team get 4 attempts (A Down) to move the ball a minimum of 10 yards.
• Every time they do, they get another 4 attempts.
• If they fail to do so the ball is given to the other team to have a go from where the ball is.
• Pitch is 100 yards split into 100 x 1 painted yards
• Teams change from offense, defence, and special teams (kicking)

Scoring

• Get the ball into the endzone to score a touchdown – 6 points
o Kick the ball through the posts (conversion) - 1 point
o Throw the ball to a player in the end zone – 2 points
• Field goal (kick the ball through the posts from open play) – 3 points
• Safety The ball carrier is tackled or forced out of bounds in his own end zone – 2 points

Player Position Names

Offensive Players

• Quarter Back - (QB) throws the ball
• Running back - (RB) runs, catches the ball & blocks
• Fullback - (FB) runs, catches the ball & lead blocker
• Offensive Line – Left Tackle (LT), Left Guard (LG), Centre (C), Right Guard (RG), Right Tackle - (RT) Block opposition players from getting to the QB – the biggest players
• Wide Receiver - (WR) catches the ball (hopefully)
• Tight End - (TE) stops players getting to the quarter back & catches the ball (hopefully)

Defensive players

• Defensive Line - (DE) Defensive Ends, (DT) Defensive Tackles – defend the lineman and block offensive players
• Line backers - (LB) tackles players
• Cornerbacks - (CB) tackle and stop long throws to players
• Safeties – (S) last line to tackle and stop long throws to players


Special Teams

• Kicker - (K) Kick at kick offs and field goals (conversion attempts after touchdown
• Punter – (P) Kicks after the team fails to get a first down (10 yards in 4 attempts)
• Return specialists – (KR) Kick Returner & (PR) Punt Returner catches the players that the punter and kicker are kicking to.
• Long Snapper – (LS) Throws the ball longer than a normal starting throw for a punt or field goal.

The UK Team Championship at DTD over the weekend of 11th Feb coincides with the NFL Superbowl on Sun 13th - and we'd love to see lots of LPPL members join us for a social gathering in DTD.

|Superbowl Update

The LA Rams will play Cincinnati Bengals in Superbowl LVI (56) at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Enroute to the Superbowl finale, the La Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers 20 to 17 in the NFC Championship on Sunday 30th January, where they came from behind in the second half to secure them a place in the Superbowl being hosted in their home stadium in California.

The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27 to 24 in another dramatic come back in the second half. The KC Chiefs threw away a 21 to 3 lead to lose the game to a team that have the second most famous quarter back in the NFL - Patrick Mahomes.

The Rams are the bookies and pundits favourite to secure victory, however the Superbowl has a habit of not going as planned for the team that is expected to win. Betting lines can be very complicated and there are lots of over/under, handicap and alternative handicap bets to be had, and it is the most bet on game of all American sports.

We’re very much looking forward to watching the Superbowl and railing Team LPPL to victory in the UK Team Championship at DTD – hope to see you at the bar 😊
